Work for the rest of Break

Attention pre-Freshmen

I apologize for getting this material so late in the week. I will give an extension of Tuesday, as I think this is more than fair to get the work done.

For the break I mentioned I wanted you to go through the materials and evidence we have either read or watched for this unit, compose a draft claim, and find your supporting evidence.

I want you to fill out the graphic organizer from the CEC handout you received on Monday. Fill out a draft claim, and three examples (These are your quotations that support your claim) Provide 3 quotations from at least 2 different sources (so 3 quotations total, 2-3 sources examined) Don't worry about the "Transitions" and the "Commentaries" we will be covering this next week. This is an outline of what you should be turning in:

Claim
Evidence #1 - Quotation from "Your Data"
Evidence #2 - "Quotation from "What is Consumer Data..."
Evidence #3 - Quotation from "Data Transparency"

You will obviously fill in the quotations with your own.

Lastly, for this week I want you to go through at least one new source (listed below) Note you do not have to go through all the sources, just ONE. We will be closely looking at some of them next week.

Here are the sources we already covered:

"Your Data" from 60 Minutes

"Safety Center" from www.google.com

"Data transparency" from " ... "

"Privacy & Terms" from " ... "

"Just Don't Call it Privacy" by Natasha Singer from The New York Times

Also here are some new resources:

"What is Consumer Data Privacy, And Where is it Headed?" by Keith Johnson from Forbes

"A Timeline of Facebook's privacy issues - and its responses" by Alyssa Newcomb from NBCNews.com

"Facebook data privacy scandal: A Cheat sheet" by James Sanders from TechRepublic.com

"What Facebook Knew and Tried to Hide" by Michael Barbaro from The Daily (Note this is a podcast)

Hope you had a great Turkey day!
M.W.S.
